From your own private deck (Turret Suite, Chelsea, Abbott and Hawthorne) you may choose to do nothing but watch the boats in the harbor while taking in the sun and cool breeze off the water. Or, you may opt for a hike through a lush pine scented forest in Acadia National Park to reach a summit offering rewarding views of Somes Sound - the only natural fjord on the east coast. Or, perhaps biking Acadia's famous Carriage Roads (over 57 miles) is the activity of the day. With our proximity to the busy town of Bar Harbor, guests can enjoy a day of shopping and "people watching) then come back to end their day on the less commercial and less trampled "Quietside" of Mount Desert Island.
The architecture of this 1904 turn-of-the-century Queen Anne Victorian displays steeply pitched roofs, cedar shingle and Pebbledash exterior with sea stones hand embedded in stucco. Inside is a seamless blend of contemporary and traditional furnishings, fine art and dramatic local photography. Fabrics of coordinating colors and patterns give this inn a designer touch. Our guests enjoy many of the amenities of an upscale resort on a casual and comfortable, smaller scale, as well as the right mix of privacy and interaction with others that a finely tuned bed and breakfast inn can provide.
Breakfast at Kingsleigh
Inn is a gourmet event perhaps offering one of Mount Desert Island's most unique menus always ending with a memorable dessert!
Before our guests savor a fruit course of Port and Cinnamon Poached Pears with Vanilla Crème Fraiche or our popular "Cairns" (inspired by the trail markers of Acadia) offering three tiers of Fresh Pineapple and Banana lightly drizzled with Hot Butter Rum Maple Sauce, they can enjoy a light starter course of Just Baked Fruit Muffins, Cinnamon Rolls, Oatmeal Bars or Almond Espresso Bars. At Kingsleigh Inn guests enjoy the choice of a Sweet or Savory Hot Breakfast Entree accompanied by a Breakfast Meat, Fruit Salad or Potatoes with Fresh Herbs, just picked from our garden. For the Grand Finale, our homemade dessert of the day may be a Fruit Sorbet, Creamy Gelato, retro Banana Split with Cranberry Conserve, Hazelnut Fudge finished with Sea Salt or Amaretto Cheesecake, to name a few.
In the afternoon, guests might enjoy Almond Lace Florentines filled with Cinnamon Buttercream, Ultimate Chocolate
Caramel Fudge Brownies or White Chocolate Chip Macadamia Cookies to accompany their freshly brewed espresso or our selections of hot chocolates or teas.
Early evening is a special time with our guests enjoying wine and a light snack, sharing their adventures of the day and perusing our menu book to choose just the right dining experience to conclude another perfect day on Mount Desert Island!
