Exploring Mount Desert Island by Water

A cruise on the water aboard any type of vessel can be an amazing and exhilarating experience. There are miles and miles of rugged coastline to explore and loads of wildlife to be spotted. One of the most incredible bodies of water in which to explore by boat is Somes Sound. The island’s rugged topography is a result of glacial action. It is split into two sections by the beautiful deep blue waters of Somes Sound, the only Fjord on the east coast. Bar Harbor is on the eastern side of the island, while Southwest Harbor is on the southwestern side, or the "Quietside" as it has been named. Whatever type of excursion you choose, it will be one of wonderful memories.
